Xbox One Backwards Compatibility List Still Missing Fan Favourites
The Xbox One backwards compatibility program is quietly building its library up, but has recently tended away from fan favourites like Call of Duty: Black Ops and Bioshock: Infinite in favour of Xbox Live Arcade titles. This week, as announced by Major Nelson on Twitter, Microsoft added seven new games to the Xbox One backwards compatibility list:
- Frogger
- Galaga Legions DX
- Altered Beast
- The Cave
- Double Dragon: Neon
- Ghostbuster: Sanctum of Slime
It’s an eclectic selection to say the least, as most of the titles and ports chosen are critical failures, and not likely to sway consumers toward the Xbox One’s cause. It’s value added of course, and the full list of titles is nothing to sneeze at, but the games listed under ‘notably absent’ have caused the nostalgic among the gaming community some ire.
Geometry Wars, Red Dead Redemption, Forza, Crackdown, Project Gotham Racing, and Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo HD Remix have yet to make their appearance, and gamers are starting to wonder what the process for choosing titles is. Are some games easier to adapt than others? Probably. It’s a miracle that emulation technology runs at all on the Xbox One, seeing as modern PCs several orders of magnitude faster than the X1 still choke on high end emulators, so Microsoft deserves a lot of credit for making the system work at all.
In any case, there are a few more Xbox 360 games you can now play on your Xbox One, if you happen to be one of the handful who own any of the above games.
