Upgrading Powers in Persona 5: Guillotine, Hanging, & Electric Chair

What Other Twisted Mode of Upgrading Might We Find in This Game?

Atlus has revealed some additional details for their highly-anticipated game, Persona 5. For anyone following our coverage up to now, you know about many in-game facets: Confidants, Persona powers, Dungeon-crawling, and more. Now devs want to go a little more in depth with how powers grow.

Persona 5

As many should be aware by now, combat relies on the strength and variety of one’s personas. Every member of the Phantom Thieve’s, led by the player character, has one. But here’s the twisted way in which you manage them. As you sleep at night, you dream a realm between the metaverse and reality. It’s called the Velvet Room, and some twisted $%@! thought it a good idea to fashion the place as a prison. It is in this peculiar purgatory where players upgrade and manage persona powers. This comes in the form of fusions that can be done in one of three ways:

  1. Basic Fusion requires two or more personas
  2. Advanced Fusion requires 3 or more
  3. Online Fusion – fuse with a random player via online network

Methods 1 and 2 require the old-fashioned execution methods, literally. Decide which personas to combine so that gatekeepers Caroline and Justine can set them under the guillotine and leave heads rolling. Play around, test ideas, and see what works in the prison-like realm managed by character Igor, who makes his return to the Persona series.

If a Fusion is now what you’re looking for, there’s other twisted crap to get items and upgrade. Hanging a persona lets you strengthen one already in your arsenal. And strapping a poor bastard to the electric chair turns them into a useable item. Play and execute how ever you want.

Persona 5 releases on April 4 for PS4 and PS3. If you’ve missed any of the Confidants trailers, you can find them here, and here. Happy gaming.
