Activision Purges Licensed Garbage from Online Stores, Bye to TMNT, Spider-Man

Say Adios to TMNT and Spider-Man Titles as Activision Cuts the Cord

It appears as if Activision wants to go into 2017 with a new outlook on life. They want to ‘hit the treadmill’ and ‘get in their best shape ever’ and how better to do that than a good old fashioned purge? A few days ago news broke that The Amazing Spider-Man and The Amazing Spider-Man 2 had been pulled from online digital marketplaces for Xbox One and PS4 with Steam following shortly behind. The horror of losing these mediocre (some might say horrible) titles may have been too much for some to bear but for most gamers, it was a resounding ‘meh’ all around. Well, buckle up kids, Activision isn’t finished.

TMNT Mutants in Manhattan HERO

Three more games have now been hit by the great Activision purge of 2017 and one of them isn’t even that old. First up is Fast & Furious: Showdown based on the infamous movie franchise of the same name. Released on last gen consoles it was poorly received overall and it’s not hard to believe that no one, and we literally mean no one, will miss it.

Next up, however, are a couple of games that may have had some actual fans. Perhaps not many fans but fans nonetheless. The TMNT franchise gets hit hard with two titles getting chopped up under the guillotine. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutants in Manhattan have both been pulled from Steam with Mutants in Manhattan also getting the axe from the PlayStation Store and Xbox Live Marketplace. The cut of Mutants in Manhattan is a bit of a surprise seeing as it only released around eight months ago. Generally poorly received it’s still a title that could have sold to some of the more unwary purchasers out there. Here at COGconnected we were left disappointed by the game as well, wittingly calling it a ‘Cowa-Bungled Mess’ but you still have to wonder why Activision is pulling the plug so quickly.

Perhaps Activision is looking to distance itself from cheap, licensed garbage? Don’t worry, we’ll wait until you stop laughing… we good? Until we see the recent Ghostbusters get pulled we’ll know that’s not the reason why. So far there’s no news out of the Activision camp as to why the games were cut but while licenses running out is a possibility it seems unlikely for the newest title of the three that got the cut.
