Super Mario Maker 2 Video Review
Super Mario Maker 2 is the toybox platformer you’ll wish you’d been playing since its first debut on the Wii U back in 2015. In Super Mario Maker 2, you can make and play custom Mario stages using various tools, blocks and objects. There is something truly zen about making your own levels, regardless of your degree of talent or ambition. Nintendo has made it a calming, joyous exercise to place blocks and build worlds, and we can’t wait to show you our full review of this game below.
Super Mario Maker 2 has a story mode that’s great for new players to get the hang of the language of creation. It’s a great warm-up to Course World, the online aspect of the game where you can play both with and against others. You also have the option of playing locally with other linked Switches. The online levels are all player-built, giving way to ridiculous, absurd, challenging fun.
One of the great things about Super Mario Maker 2 is how it will shift your mindset towards all Mario games moving forward. It turns a passive audience member into an active participant that will have you analyzing every level and the design choices made in them. The toolkit of Maker 2 gives you the freedom to recreate and invent your own levels in a lighthearted and very therapeutic fashion, and we’ve sure got a lot of lost time to make up for with this entertaining little game.
