Infernax Preview
Retro side-scroller fans rejoice! Next month, Infernax will be launching on PC, PS4, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch. We got ourselves a little taste of the game ahead of time and we are here to tell you that it is a fun time.
Infernax is reminiscent of classic Castlevania games. You have a basic weapon, a shield, and an unending horde of monsters to smash. You play as Alcedor, a young duke who returns home to find it plagued by undead creatures. At that point, you proceed to pound the blood, viscera, and coins out of everything in your path.
The gore may be over the top, but the game does not take itself too seriously. There is a self-aware, tongue-in-cheek style to its humor. There come times where Alcedor encounters people on the verge of becoming undead monsters. At this time, you can choose to pray for them or to smash their face in and put them out of their misery. These choices indicate that there will be consequences for these actions down the line.
As Alcedor progresses, he will find coins, which he can trade in to merchants for upgrades and better gear. There are also side quests to pick up from villagers and other NPCs.
Infernax also has Metroidvania elements, like needing specific abilities to progress in a certain direction. The game is kind enough to let you know when you have reached a dead end though. Infernax will be coming out on February 14th for PC, PS4, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch.
Thank you for keeping it locked on COGconnected.
