Dream Alone Video Review
Over the last few years we have seen some fantastic platforming titles that bank heavily on monochromatic, dark, creepy gameplay in which your only means of survival is to keep moving. Clinging to this idea and giving it an incredibly intriguing Tim Burton style aesthetic, how could Dream Alone go wrong? Diving into the experience certainly left a lasting impression, but not the kind it was hoping for. For our full thoughts on the game, check out our video review below.
Dream Alone is a 2D side scrolling platformer with puzzle solving elements in which players take control of a boy whose entirely family falls victim to a plague that puts them into a coma. The boy sets out to find Lady Death who is said to be able to stop or reverse the disease and save the people afflicted with this blight. While the concept is unique and the art style is fresh, the controls and terrible lighting for the game quickly stagnate the experience, and repetitive death animations and odd mechanical problems along with the necessity for precision controls make this game more of a chore than its worth.
Dream Alone is available now on PC and Nintendo Switch, and is set for release later this year on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Have you tried the game yet?
