DOOM: Dismember the Hell Guard
With the new DOOM comes some new (or returning) bosses to take down. They’re not easy, so here’s a quick guide with our tried and true methods for defeating them without much trouble. Let’s get going on the Hell Guard! (Hint: Use the BFG. Use it a lot.)
For most of the fight, the Hell Guard will be protected by a green shield. Weapons like the rocket launcher or shotgun are great for this fight due to their ability to pump out high damage in a few shots. For the majority of the first phase, you want to back away and circle the boss to avoid his melee attacks. Each time the shield comes down, hit him. When you see him stop to charge up his orb attack (3 large projectiles) try to hit him with a heavy attack like a rocket or grenade launched from your combat shotgun; this will stun the Hell Guard and leave him vulnerable. When he starts to either spin around spewing flames or toss his weapon that spews flames, you want to end the fight quickly. A BFG shot will stun him; unload whatever you have to end the first phase. Repeat with a second BFG shot if necessary.
Phase II doubles the fun with a second guard. This is actually an easier fight because they no longer have the green shielding, or the rotating flame attack. Instead, the two bosses switch between a spinning attack that has a small fire area of effect around the boss, and a similar version of the charge up attack used in the first phase. Focus down the guard that likes to use the charge up attack by stunning him whenever he tries to use it. Just keep moving and shooting to try to avoid the spinning Hell Guard during this, and eventually you’ll only have one threat left to deal with. After the first guard goes down, use a similar strategy of just backing away and circling around the Hell Guard, except this time you can just keep your finger on the trigger the whole time until he’s ready for a glory kill.
