Detroit: Become Human Video Review
All eyes have been on Quantic Dreams upcoming title for a long time. Promising a twisting, winding narrative with deep gameplay, meaningful choices, and a spectacular sci-fi setting, Detroit: Become Human set an incredibly high bar for itself back when it was first announced in 2015. Offering a narrative-heavy experience, players take on the role of three androids as they unravel a story of oppression and what it means to be human. Dealing with such a heavy idea would surely be a challenge, but was Quantic Dreams able to pull it off and give us what they had promised us? Check out our video review below to find out!
Set in Detroit in the near future, players will take the roles of Connor, Kara, and Markus; three androids from different walks of life and vastly different settings. The game is overflowing with narrative options and consequences, with no game over for missteps or accidents. Instead, the narrative will play out entirely how you make it. Crucial evidence could be missed, a QTE can be failed, and so many other possibilities that can have dire consequences on this powerful focus on equality and humanity.
While Detroit: Become Human delivers strongly on the atmosphere and heavy tone of the game, there are some cumbersome issues with the camera and key items not highlighting during investigations. Tackling serious social issues was a brave step that worked well for the game itself, however their relation to today’s current sociological climate don’t quite hit the mark and instead feel thin in their resolution. Detroit does make full use of the dualshock controller while playing, including the often forgotten motion detection and helps players fully immerse in the experience.
