Turtle Beach Kone II Mouse Review

In the past I have enjoyed using a fair share of Turtle Beach products, as well as a handful of mice and the original wired ROCCAT Kone Pro. There hasn’t been a single one I haven’t loved using and today that statement remains unchanged. That’s right, the Turtle Beach Kone II mouse is fun, ergonomic, and extremely budget-friendly. It’s a mouse that both new, and seasoned players, are going to enjoy.

Now what exactly is in the box? The Kone II comes as a wired mouse, complete with a strong PhantomFlex braided cable. There’s also some side grip tape, and an instructional guide showcasing some of what the buttons can do. Nothing too crazy, keeping it simple.

Sleek in White

If you’ve watched the announcement trailer or seen images of the Kone II you’ll know just how slick it looks. That said, it’s even more stunning the moment you take it out of the box. It comes in 2 different colors – white and black – and the white is so bright and crisp. The Kone II is bold and colorful, with 3 bright pops of color. These are right at the mouse wheel and a little lower on top of the mouse in two larger strips. Considering it’s a big mouse you’re absolutely going to feel like you’re at a rave when it’s plugged in!

The Kone II feels just as good as it looks. The mouse is smooth, features a strong anti-fray cable, and a perfectly ridged 4D wheel. The Kone II has 8 different buttons, a couple of which can be pressed in multiple spots for even greater functionality. Aside from the classic left and right click buttons and the wheel, there are +/- easy shift buttons on the top, T1 and T2 buttons on the left hand side, and a thumb click button. All of these buttons have a satisfying click, especially the classic left and right ones. They’re a bit on the louder side, as they are TITAN optical switches, but if that’s how you like mouse clicks, you’ll love that.

A Perfect Fit

Overall, the design of the Kone II is very thoughtful. It’s ergonomic, yet it feels great to use. Despite its size, it’s very lightweight, at only 90g (approximately .20 pounds). On the bottom of the Kone II there are heat treated PTFE feet that assist in the quick glides. As a result, it slides well across all surfaces I tried, from a wooden and marble table, to a couch arm, to a mouse pad. The buttons are perfectly placed as well, with no overextending of fingers required to hit them for quick controls in game. While it is ergonomic, I think the one downside to its size is that anyone with smaller hands may struggle to use the Kone II as intended. I have fairly big hands and long fingers and found that not every grip was comfortable to use. By far, the fingertip and claw were a bit better than my usual full palm grip. The side grip tape may help with this for those with smaller hands, but only so much.

Quick & More Accurate Than Ever

Aside from the grip, the Kone II performs very well. It’s very responsive and accurate, featuring a maximum DPI of 26K with the Owl Eye optical sensor. Given how light the mouse is it’s great for wide arc motions or wrist movements when playing a variety of games. The 4D mouse wheel is an interesting and fresh addition. I like that it’s clickable in different ways and moves to the left and right in addition to the classical scrolling. The easy-shift button, while held, allows you to create new functions, hotkeys or macros and bind them to specific buttons.

Your Mouse Your Way

As mentioned earlier, the versatility and customization of the buttons are a massive strength of the Kone II. The Turtle Beach Swarm II app helps bring this all together in the best way. Windows PC players can customize multiple aspects of the Kone II. This includes the AIMO RGB lighting for all three zones. But that’s not all. Players can also customize the 8 buttons further than the easy-shift options. Using the app you can customize each of these buttons for a total of 21 different functions! They’re quick and easy to set up and are incredibly game changing. There’s also different profiles to set up, so regardless of your game, you’ll have the perfect set up, every damn time.

The Kone II is only $69.99 USD. Considering just how versatile it is, and how smooth it is to use, the Kone II is absolutely worth the price. Players would be hard pressed to find a better looking, better performing mouse for less. There are only two groups of gamers who may not love this mouse. Those are the PC players with small hands and the ones who are looking for something more simplistic. For anyone with large hands that have yet to find the perfect mouse, the Kone II should be on your radar!
