Saints Row: Gat Out of Hell Hands-On Preview – Grab That Purple Dildo & Take a Ride to Hell

While at Pax Prime a couple of weeks ago, I had the chance to spend some time at the Deep Silver booth. Of the couple of titles I played one stood out in big way and its sure to have fans of the franchise frothing at the mouth. After some hands-on time with Deep Silver and Volition’s upcoming standalone expansion to the Saints Row world called “Saints Row: Gat Out of Hell” one thing is for certain, Saints Row just got a little nuttier!

Set to be released as a digital (and retail I am told) title sometime in January 2015 for the Xbox One, Xbox 360, PS3 and 4 ‘Gat Out of Hell’ takes Saints Row 4 President Johnny Gat straight into the depths of hell via a Ouija board. In keeping with the Saints Row franchises over the top theme, ‘Gat Out of Hell’ promises an impressive character load including the devil, making the game that much over the top.

The game play is classic Saints Row with a few new modes and tricks thrown in. Right off the hop you play as Johnny Gat and you have the ability to fly or soar high above Satan’s realm. The demo crashed on us so our playtime was a cut a little short but the bit I did play was a blast. I mean nothing beats armchair machine gun turrets, right? This swiveling lazy boy shed enemies like a heavy duty paper cutter. It was bad ass, memorable and left me wanting more!

The action is still a mix of gore filled violence with bizarre weapons and wacky subject matter. While Saints Row has never exactly been my cup of tea what I can say is this game had me grinning from ear to ear. It was hilarious, crazy and so much fun! Needless to say it is something I am looking forward to in the next year.

Also announced at PAX was Saints Row IV: Re-Elected. Gamers and fans of Saints Row 4 will now be able to enjoy the blockbuster release on their next gen consoles. The games have been optimized to run cleaner with enhanced graphical flair. The entire library of DLC is also playable on the new consoles making it one hell of a package for gamers. Get ready there is plenty to do!
