Top 5 Video Game Releases to Watch for July 2017

Pyre – Supergiant Games – PC, PS4 (July 25)

If you have not heard of Supergiant Games, you have more than likely heard of their first two games: Bastion and Transistor. If their first two games are any indication, Pyre is going to be another must-play game. Best described as a party-based RPG, Supergiant Games is once again trying something different while still producing a high-quality experience. Besides the slick aesthetics, Pyre’s biggest draw point could be its highly unique battle system which is best seen and tried rather than be described by myself. But put simply, it is a three-on-three battle system where teams try to extinguish each others’ signal flame. Based on the developer’s history, we are pretty sure that Pyre will be another success!

Yonder: The Cloud Catcher Chronicles – Prideful Sloth – PC, PS4 (July 18)

Yonder: The Cloud Catcher Chronicles is a title you likely have not heard of, but once you catch a glimpse of its visuals, you’ll probably be wanting more. Reminiscent of games like RiME and other games that RiME had been compared to, Yonder: The Cloud Catcher Chronicles is an open-world adventure title with vibrant graphics, crafting elements, relationship building, and a sense of discovery. Although this game may be flying under most people’s radars, we can’t help but feel that Yonder: The Cloud Catcher Chronicles is going to be loved by those who play it.

Splatoon 2 – Nintendo – Nintendo Switch (July 21)

When ARMS was released last month, it evoked memories of Splatoon for many given the bright colors and being a new Nintendo IP. Fast forward here to July 2017 and Splatoon makes its debut on the Nintendo Switch with Splatoon 2. Players can expect more of the same in Splatoon 2, with fast-paced, short online multiplayer matches filled with style and unique weapons. Perhaps my favorite aspect of Splatoon 2 is that its storyline is based on the final Splatfest event of the first game. While a story mode itself is appreciated, the fact that Nintendo is utilizing online results in its single player portions is something that is unique and makes players feel as if their actions have consequences. Overall, Splatoon 2 is definitely going to make a splash and leave a mark!
