2024 has been a great year for VR gamers and things are looking even better for the remainder of 2024. Going into the last three months of the year, there are some heavy hitters – Batman, anyone? – ready to be released. The VR landscape has been bolstered by the release of the PSVR 2 PC Adapter opening up PCVR for PSVR 2 headset owners. There is also the impending release of the Meta Quest 3S – a scaled down and more pocket book friendly version of the Quest 3.
The most exciting aspect of these games are the variety of genres they cover. So here is a list of ten upcoming VR games plus one bonus mention of a VR game for a very popular series that is being modded to allow those who don’t or can’t do VR, to be able to play the game in 2D.
***Last Minute Addition – Hitman World of Assassination – PSVR 2***
At Sony’s latest State of Play on Sept 24, 2024 – they shocked PSVR 2 owners with the unexpected announcement of Hitman – World of Assassination(WOA) coming to PSVR 2. And coming this December! This is a total surprise as it was totally kept under wraps before the show. WOA game includes all the levels from Hitman 1 – 3. Fingers crossed this one is better than the game recently released for the Quest 3.
1) Batman Arkham Shadows – Meta 3 & 3S – October 24
I’m Batman! It’s been a long time since the last Arkham Batman game but fear not Batfreaks. The caped crusader is coming back in a new Arkham game this October. That’s the good news for VR gamers. Not so great for pancake only gamers. Not all VR gamers are happy either. Batman: Arkham Shadows will only be available for the Quest 3 and 3S. Still a new Arkham game is coming and early buzz is the game is very good.
2) Wanderer: Fragments of Fate – All VR Platforms – Oct 30, 2024
The original Wanderer made a big splash with graphics that rivalled The Red Matter games. More importantly both games also offer great stories and gameplay. 3) Vendetta Forever – PSVR 2 & Quest – 2024
It’s hard to believe it’s taken this long for developers to tap into the gameplay mechanics of the seminal VR shooter – Superhot. Tying enemy movement to the players – a la Matrix Bullet Time allows for some very inventive scenarios for the player to figure out how to best levels. Vendetta Forever flips the mechanics and has the enemies move when you stop moving. The game has fast run level challenges and a leaderboard to show how you stack up against your buddies and the world.
4) Arizona Sunshine Remake – All VR Platforms – Oct 20, 2024
The original Arizona Sunshine is six years which makes it ancient in terms of VR Games. The original game is being released with an extensive make over using all the tips and tech the developers learned while making Arizona Sunshine 2, the sequel to the first game. You can look forward to replaying the Arizona Sunshine campaign in a gloriously updated version.
5) Metal Hellslinger: VR – Steam & PSVR 2 – Oct 3, 2024
Think Doom 2016 and Doom Eternal in VR but based on a heavy metal music rhythm beat. You play as a demon out for revenge and will slice, dice, shoot, and maim various demons and boss demons all to a heavy metal beat featuring some heavy hitters like Composer duo Two Feathers with an thunderous original score, with vocals by metal icons such as Serj Tankian (System of a Down), Randy Blythe (Lamb of God), Alissa White-Gluz (Arch Enemy), and more!
