Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP is a remaster of a 12 year old collaboration between Suda51 and Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn. It’s dripping with style, and interesting content. But its chainsaw wielding third person action remains bland. It’s one of those strange games that has a cult following, despite being mechanically quite poor. Our reviewer questioned their own rating, and wrote “killing zombies with a chainsaw amidst a flurry of sparkly gore can be a pretty good time. On the other hand, I hesitate to recommend this game for purchase”. If you’re curious, don’t let Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP’s lower score dissuade you.
Pneumata

Pneumata is a first person survival horror game. In most of its gameplay and design aspects, it’s good, but a little bland. The main problem with the game is that it looks great, and runs poorly. It requires a really beefy PC to make it run, and even then, don’t expect 60 FPS. Our reviewer wrote “I suspect the devs faced a learning curve” when working with Unreal Engine 5. If the game was more ambitious, these problems would be forgivable. But Pneumata isn’t particularly interesting. It’s the lowest scoring game on The Three Best (and Worst) Video Games from September 2024.
Test Drive Unlimited: Solar Crown

The Test Drive series is back with a new open world racing game called Test Drive Unlimited: Solar Crown! Sadly, the results aren’t impressive, especially compared to similar games like Forza Horizon 5 and Gran Turismo 7. Visually, it doesn’t compare, and it runs really poorly. The open Hong Kong environment is also pretty bland. Our reviewer really enjoyed the more arcade-y racing though. They concluded “it can be fun if you go into it with expectations in check”. It’s in The Bad section of The Three Best (and Worst) Video Games from September 2024, so knowing that, racing fans might enjoy taking Test Drive Unlimited: Solar Crown for a spin.
