I want to put in another reminder that none of the games in The Bad section of The Three Best (and Worst) Video Games from August 2024 scored poorly. Creatures of Ava got 72/100. Our reviewer loved the world, and colorful aesthetics. But the gameplay loop left something to be desired in this third person adventure game. Our reviewer wrote “the constant scanning, scavenging, crafting, and backtracking is where I fall off”. There were just too many busying tasks, and not enough meaty gameplay in Creatures of Ava.
Madden NFL 25

Madden NFL 25 is not good enough. It’s a lot more fun than past series entries, but it’s also not as good as last month’s College Football 25. The gameplay is basically unchanged, but the new physics make the game feel a lot better than recent series entries. As gorgeous as the game is, there are also lots of technical issues. Our reviewer wrote “as I enjoy the improved feeling of the defensive game and the more nuanced passing, it means nothing if I can’t be confident that I’ll be able to play four quarters without the game locking up”. Disappointing major releases like Madden 25 are a sure thing for Bad sections on articles like The Three Best (and Worst) Video Games from August 2024.
Natsu-Mon: 20th Century Summer Kid

Natsu-Mon: 20th Century Summer Kid is a spin-off of the Boku no Natsuyasumi games. The original game, for the PS1 took place in the 70s, and its PS2 sequel took place in the 80s. A new century brings a new kid. Natsu-Mon: 20th Century Summer Kid a chill third person adventure game about a kid on summer vacation catching bugs, exploring, and chatting with people in their village. It’s like a JRPG that only has side quests. Our reviewer called Natsu-Mon: 20th Century Summer Kid “a cozy delight, a joyful reminiscence of childhood”. The only thing putting it in The Bad section of The Three Best (and Worst) Video Games from August 2024, is a lack of bad games.
