CONTROLLERS
Controllers have always been divisive. Some gamers love the PlayStation DualSense, and others prefer Xbox controllers. Over the past several years, third-party controllers have added new programmability and extra buttons or triggers to the humble gamepad. Like every piece of essential gear, fit and function are part of the equation. It’s only an upgrade if it feels good to use and makes your work or playtime better.
Fornite Enhanced Wireless Controller for Switch
What we said: The Fortnite Enhanced Wireless Controller is an excellent option if you’re looking for a new Nintendo Switch controller. The mappable buttons can be a handy addition. Motion controls seem to work perfectly. And the controller looks great. As an added bonus, the controller also includes an exclusive download code for a glider in Fortnite. The controller is not without its downsides. Not having NFC support or an IR camera is a bummer, but not having an HD rumble is a travesty. If you’re looking for a pro-style controller, and you can live without some of the missing features, then I highly recommend this enhanced controller.
Turtle Beach Stealth Ultra Controller
What we said: In many ways, the Turtle Beach Stealth Ultra Controller lives up to its hype, delivering an experience that goes beyond expectations. Its innovative color screen Comman Center is a game changer. Not to mention all the customizable options, its premium build quality, and compatibility across multiple platforms make this controller a can’t-miss option for those looking for a new gamepad. While the $199.99 USD price tag may be on the higher side, it is cheaper than the Elite and the Stealth Ultra justifies its cost with a plethora of features that rival any pro controller on the market. If you’re looking to seriously invest in your controller game, the Stealth Ultra is a fantastic option.
Razer Wolverine V3 PRO
What we said: I’m a big fan of the standard Series X controller. It’s got a pleasing heft and an ergonomic shape that does all you need it to. But the V3 Pro blows that thing out of the water, hands down. The inputs are responsive, the buttons feel amazing, and the weight is basically perfect. Plus, it’s got a proper rechargeable battery and a host of pro-friendly features. And after so many years of trying, this might be the model that gets me experimenting with the back paddles. If you’re looking for your next top-tier gaming controller, Razer’s Wolverine V3 Pro should be first on your list.
HEADPHONESÂ
Aside from keyboards, mice, and controllers the world of peripherals and gaming tech is immense. Headphones with a good mic are pretty essential, but what about glare-reducing gaming glasses? Gaming laptops have long been competitive with desktop PCs and every year they offer more power for less money.
Razer Barracuda X Chroma Wireless Headset
The Razer Barracuda X Chroma is a reasonably priced set of headphones with a few standout features: lightweight, detachable cardioid mic and both Bluetooth and wireless connectivity. The intention here is versatility. Razer would like the Barracuda X Chroma to be your go-to headphones for gaming, communication, and go-everywhere listening.
Turtle Beach Stealth 700 Gen 3 Headset
What we said: The Turtle Beach Stealth 700 Gen 3 is a feature-rich headset that offers gamers an accessible, multiplatform solution. With its robust design, satisfying sound quality, versatile connectivity, and impressive battery life, it’s a strong contender in the wireless headset market. While there are some quirks regarding platform compatibility, particularly between Xbox and PlayStation models, the overall experience is streamlined and user-friendly. At $199.99 (USD), the Stealth 700 Gen 3 offers a lot of value for gamers looking for high-quality audio across multiple platforms without the usual headaches.
Turtle Beach Stealth 500 Headset
What we said: Though the Stealth 500 may not be the best headset I’ve ever used, Turtle Beach delivers high quality on a budget yet again. It’s a welcome addition to my current Xbox setup and works well with the Switch as well. The Stealth 500’s got plenty of bells and whistles, and great sound quality that makes it well worth the price point. Add its sleek design, multi-platform use, and overall adaptability and it’s a steal! At just $80 USD it’s going to be difficult to find a more well-rounded gaming headset on the market right now.
GAMING LAPTOPS and MORE
MSI Stealth 16 Studio A13V Gaming Laptop
What we said: Laptop gaming is all about trade-offs. In exchange for portability, you’re always giving something up. Battery life, cooling systems, and raw power all come to mind. And yet, the Stealth 16 makes these trades seem worth it. The fans are beefy enough to beat back the worst of the heat. That GTX 4060 can handle almost anything you throw at it. We haven’t quite cracked that battery problem yet, but I’ve made my peace with this. If you’re in the market for a portable gaming rig, consider the Stealth 16. It’s sleek, sexy, and crazy powerful.
