The Best
Zombies
While we only got to see a snippet of the new Zombies experience set to drop with Black Ops 7 during the beta this past week, I’m excited for what’s to come. Playing Survival on Vandorn Farm is classic zombies meets new age mechanics and field upgrades. There’s a new field upgrade called Toxic Growth, which summons a patch of poisonous vines to block and damage zombies, and a new Perk-A-Cola called Wisp Tea, which summons a wisp to help you fight zombies. I’m curious about how we’ll be able to upgrade them, and how they’ll assist with completing the story and subsequent easter eggs. Vandorn Farm is proof this year’s zombies may just be better than Black Ops 6. Playing Survival was strategic, fun, and ultimately chaotic at the higher levels.

Frenetic Fun & Aesthetically Captivating
The movement from Black Ops 6 has been refined, and it feels smooth as butter. The omni-movement has been toned down a bit, but wall jumping has been added for an extra splash of challenge. The gunplay is tight, and movement now feels like a perfect balance of fluid and tactical. Black Ops 7 is quicker than ever, with games lasting just a few minutes. Every match feels like a live fire test of reflexes, strategy, and pure skill. Despite the maps being built for campers, there are a lot of people who run-and-gun, who live for the action of hopping and gliding their way to victory. This increases the pace to a near frenzy, and it’s a ton of fun. Graphically, Black Ops 7 is incredible. It’s bright and punchy. It’s futuristic with a dash of realism. It feels very much like all of the other Black Ops games, but every match brought the energy, and that’s something to look forward to. Especially if the matchmaking issues can be fixed!
Class System Expanded
The Black Ops 7 class system has been expanded, and it feels more cohesive and thoughtful than ever. The combat specialties have gone from the core three of enforcer, strategist, and recon to now including hybrid specialties. These allow for bonuses whilst allowing for some mixing and matching of the perks. These are Tactician (mixing green with red perks), Scout (mixing red with blue perks), and Operative (mixing blue with green perks), and they will absolutely change the strategy of class setup. Aside from these upgrades to the combat specialties, a new overclock system allows you to level up more than just your weapons. You can drastically change/upgrade how the field upgrades and equipment work, which ensures they don’t feel like simple additions to your class setup, but must-haves!

Honorable Mention: Overload
The Overload game mode is going to be a seriously good time. It’s a new 6v6 mode where you have to grab the mobile EMP device and bring it to the enemy’s side to overload their systems. Hence the name. It’s quick, it’s strategic, and just a ton of fun. It’s the closest game mode to team defender as I’ve seen since Modern Warfare (2019). And that’s always a good thing.
