50/50 Battles
In previous FIFA games, players would almost always avoid each other when they are running towards the ball head to head. Now your player’s instincts coupled with the player’s reactions during the game will determine how well you win loose balls. This makes for some hilarious collisions and, once again, makes for a more dynamic and unpredictable game.
The Journey is Back
Unfortunately, we didn’t get a chance to play the third installment of the Journey trilogy but it was 100% confirmed it is back in the game. As someone who loves the inclusion of a narrative story mode in a sports game, its return gets a big thumbs up from me. If you were hoping to hear more about this mode you’ll have to wait as apparently new details will surface during Gamescom. But one thing we can say is that it will be centered around the Champions League.
FIFA 19 on The Switch
FIFA will remain the only EA Sports game on the Nintendo Switch. While Madden, NHL and NBA devs would not rule it out, at the time of writing FIFA is the only EA sports franchise to make its way to Nintendo’s handheld console. So full kudos to the development team for making that happen yet again. With the Switch version, Online Friendlies will allow you to play a five-match season with anyone on your friend’s list. There are also some changes to the shooting mechanics that give players more control. FIFA 19 on the go? What’s not to like here.
Timed Finishing
I should mention there is a new Timed Finishing mechanic that adds the ability to control how accurately you can strike the ball. Okay, I get it, this doesn’t sound like anything new but hear me out. This is accomplished by double-tapping the shoot button and the second tap determines how well you connect with the shot. For those die-hard fans who want more depth when it comes to shooting, FIFA 19’s timed finishing mechanic has you covered.
New Commentary Duo
I doubt very much we’ll ever get away from repetitive comments but it does start to grate you after awhile especially after you’ve been listening to same FIFA commentary team for years. FIFA 19’s new Champions League will feature a brand-new commentary team in Derek Rae and Lee Dixon. Just like EA Sports other franchise sports games, you are getting true pros delivering the commentary and we absolutely love that.
Fifa 19 will be available on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PC and Nintendo Switch. It will be released globally on September 28, 2018, with three different editions – the standard edition, Champions edition and Ultimate edition.
