We here at COGconnected loved Rise of the Tomb Raider on the Xbox One. When we reviewed it back in November we called it a “freakin’ great experience”. It even ended up as one of our Games of the Year. Two and half months later, we managed to get our hands on the PC version of the game. Upon the completion of Rise of the Tomb Raider’s PC release, COGConnected has assembled a list of tips and tricks to help you through Lara Croft’s latest adventure. Wasting no time, lets get right to it!
EXP!
It can sometimes feel like a waste to devote points to experience boosters while you can obtain napalm and triple arrows. Investing points into these boosters early on is recommended, as it won’t feel like a waste when you’re the game’s closing hours and you’ll be able to retrieve those Napalm arrows faster, all thanks to having Lara read books and obtain ancient rings.
Crosshairs!
Early on, you’ll often be venturing into dark caves, filled to the brim with Wolves, Bears, and Cheetahs. These encounters are designed to have you shoot these vile beasts within a foot of biting your neck off; but there’s an easy solution. Just steer your crosshair left and right like a maniac until you see your crosshair turn red, and shoot the target from a safe distance.
Crafting on the Fly!
Segments later in the game will force your hand into following this tactic, but it works great no matter the context. As long as you’ve got the materials and skills, you can practically make a deadly explosive out of anything laying on the ground. Molotov Cocktails, Shrapnel Grenades, and (Admittedly useless) smoke bombs. Problems aside, this tactic saves you ammo and often will result in more quick deaths than wasting ammo on enemies.
Specific Button Presses!
Not sure if this appeared in the Xbox One version of the game, but the PC release has a strange but ultimately minor bug where when you walk over a hidden stash, the game will deny access to it on the first attempt. This is corrected by walking over it a second time. Skinning animals can also force you to stand in a very specific spot.
