5 Things We Love And 5 Things We Hate About Rock Band 4

Hate List

1. No Online Play

If you’re like me and all your friends are over Rock Band, it can be difficult to play with other people in the same room. Online play provides a great alternative to playing by yourself. It’s been confirmed that the December update for the game will not feature online play, so one can only hope it makes an appearance next year.

2. No Setlist Creator

I was shocked to see this feature missing. One of my favourite features of Rock Band 3 was the ability to create and save setlists. Not having a setlist creator totally kills your buzz when you’re playing quickplay and having to go back to your song library after each song. While the Show Mode attempts to replace the setlist creator, it doesn’t do it justice.

 3. No Song Rating System

One of my favourite features of Rock Band 3 was the ability to rate songs. Hate a song? You could give it a poor rating and it would show up less often in random setlists. Plus, when you have 100’s of songs it’s often difficult to remember which songs are fun.

4. Connectivity/Sensitivity Issues With the Instruments

There have been some issues with the new instruments. The new microphone appears to have a little lag, the guitar randomly disconnects and the drums have had some sensitivity issues. Even setting up my electronic drum kit has been nothing but a pain in Rock Band 4. Songs I would normally score 98 or 99% on expert drums, now see me score 95-96% in Rock Band 4. Madcatz has been issuing Firmware updates for the new instruments, but unless you have a PC, you’re out of luck for the time being.

 5. Scores Don’t Transfer Over to Quickplay

It felt great in Rock Band 3 to gold star a song in the career mode and see the same score transfer over to quickplay. This is long gone in Rock Band 4. While one can argue that your overdrive and multipliers carry over from song to song, I would love it if Harmonix could somehow replicate what they did with Rock Band 3 in the score department.

There you have it folks! Rock Band 4 in a nutshell. It’s great to see weekly DLC making a return and future updates already taking shape in the game. Harmonix has already promised some game changing features in the December Update. With Guitar Hero Live due out in a week, it looks like rhythm gaming fans will have a lot to look forward to soon.
