4) Mini-Games
A Yakuza game is not a true Yakuza game without its abundance of mini-games. Yakuza 0 isn’t short of it and actually implements a proper and important one based on the era – disco dancing. You also still have your arcades, Karaoke, Darts, bowling, etc. Shifting to the more, well, sexy side of things, you also get Telephone Club where you flirt with girls over the phone in hopes they’ll meet you in person, Cat Fights, and the ability to watch ‘Erotic videos’ of real-life Japanese adult video stars (it’s just them in bikinis nothing crazy) who landed a spot in the game through a voting system. These ladies also appear in-game as NPCs so it’s pretty entertaining to see a character model transform into a real-life person (aside from the fact that you probably don’t want anyone to catch you watching such a thing!). It’s a whole bunch of games within a game and it’s just awesome.
5) Combat
The combat system in Yakuza 0 got a revamp and is new to us here in North America. Instead of having just one fighting ‘style’, you now get three different fighting styles in addition to using an equipped weapon. Kiryu and Goro each have three different fighting styles that roughly mirror each other, but aren’t entirely identical. Each fighting style for both Kiryu and Goro has specific perks, movement styles, and ability trees. You can also switch between them at any time during battles which adds to the variety and fun.
These are just the five of the abundance of things Yakuza 0 has to offer. Be sure to stay tuned for our full review of the game in the near future. In the meantime, how excited are you for Yakuza 0? What things are you looking forward to the most? Let us know in the comments section below!
