3 Up, 3 Down – Three Things We Loved (And Hated) About Fallout 4

The Hate List

1 – Steep Learning Curve

I’m not going to lie, the amount of character customizations, crafting, combat nuances, fortress building etc. can make a person’s head spin, especially for anyone new to a Bethesda game, let alone the Fallout franchise. It can be overwhelming and turn off some players who don’t feel like sticking it out. Part of the problem is the lack of in game tutorials on how things work and the higher level implications of your decision making. Some concepts are not straight forward, requiring you to read lengthy tutorials in the help menu. Step by step in game practice tutorials would have been helpful in explaining things, but the game just drops you into the world and lets you go at it with the steep learning curve. For those willing to get past the learning hurdle will be in for a rich and deep experience that could rival as the greatest RPGs of all time (or at least until the next single player Elder Scrolls game comes out).

2 – It’s Got Bugs

It wouldn’t be a Bethesda game without bugs (and not the radioactive kind). So far in my playthrough, I have encountered a couple of graphical bugs that provide a slight annoyance. For example, a location that was suppose to be a quarry mine appeared as a series of unpolished blocks that I could clip through to reveal the actual in game assets. Though these problems weren’t game breaking, these bugs are a company staple that fans have learned to live with. Fortunately the game is of such a high quality that these issues are easy to look past. I’m sure they’ll release a bug free game one of these days…HAHAHA..haha…ha…ha… sigh

3 – Companions Just Leave You

Well if you came with me to wander a nuclear wasteland and not expect to kill a few innocent people or steal a few necessities along the way you shouldn’t have even offered to come along!  Thanks for nothing Codsworth!
