3 Up, 3 Down – February 2019
While January 2019 was dominated by Resident Evil 2 and Kingdom Hearts III, February 2019 was a bit rougher on its big releases. In a month generally with less notable releases, recent years have the early months being home to some of the years’ biggest releases. February 2019 followed this trend with some big releases, but how did these releases fare?
The Best
Eastshade
Placed in the role of a traveling painter exploring the titular island of Eastshade, players are treated to an open-world full of adventure and character. Eastshade made our list of the top games of the month due to its breathtaking visuals, expansive story, a large variety of quests, customization, and a brilliant experience of exploration. In our review, we noted that “the world was beautiful and expansive, the storytelling was not only strong but often masterful, and the whole package left [us] with that post-game hangover that has you putting down every game after it.”
DiRT Rally 2.0
You might wonder, what is a game such as this doing on the top games of February 2019 list? DiRT Rally 2.0 is the latest from developer Codemasters and brings some of the best off-road racing gameplay to your living rooms. With its authentic feel, we also noted that “DiRT Rally 2.0 is an outstanding game that took everything that was good about the original and improved upon it.”
Apex Legends
At a time when battle royale games are generally frowned upon or used as the butt of jokes despite their massive popularity, a new challenger has emerged. Though it seemed that the market was already saturated, enter Apex Legends. With a quick reveal and subsequent release, Respawn Entertainment’s Apex Legends features a pseudo mix of hero shooters and battle royales. With its three-player squads of charming characters, overall polish, and smart ping system for non-verbal communication, battle royales may have found a new face.
