Nintendo Switch
Dragon Quest – $3.99
If you’re craving an old-school RPG that’s maintained its status as one of the best JRPG series’ of all time, look no further than the Dragon Quest games. The original Dragon Quest games pioneered almost everything we know about the genre today, and the retro 8-bit goodness is still as charming as ever. If you need a new adventure and want to get back to the roots of RPG games as we know them, then you can take advantage of Dragon Quest for $3.99, Dragon Quest II for $5.19, and Dragon Quest III for $9.99 on the Nintendo Switch.
My Time at Portia – $14.99
My Time at Portia is one of my all-time favorite games in the peaceful, farming and building simulation games genre. For anyone who’s ever fallen in love with Stardew Valley, Animal Crossing, or Harvest Moon, this game expands beautifully on all of them. You take on your father’s workshop in a small town set in a surprisingly upbeat, post-apocalyptic future and must craft, farm, explore and become a part of the community. It takes the crafting and social simulation concepts of Animal Crossing and Stardew Valley and turns it into a more story-driven adventure with an endless amount of things to do and an extremely satisfying progression within the community around you. My Time At Portia is soothing and satisfying, and for fans of the genre, it’s a game you won’t be able to put down for months.
Thea: The Awakening – $7.19
Thea: The Awakening is a turn-based strategy and survival game that combines roguelike and RPG elements with card-combat in a Slavic Folklore-inspired backdrop. There are very few games available on the Switch that compare in this genre, and for fans of 4X games with a great mix of different elements, the current price on this game should be intriguing.
South Park: The Stick of Truth – $11.99
South Park: The Stick of Truth is an RPG written in its entirety by Matt Stone and Trey Parker in a magnificent partnership with Obsidian Entertainment. It’s a hilarious and ridiculously fun time for anyone who loves the hit television show. If the Switch isn’t your console of choice, you can also grab South Park: The Stick of Truth for $7.49 on Steam. Find out why we loved the game so much we gave it a 93/100 in our original review here.
Cities: Skylines – $9.99
If you love city-builders and haven’t gotten your hands on this one quite yet, Cities: Skylines is currently fetching a pretty great price on the Switch right now. For less than $10, you can develop your own city, manage its roads and infrastructure, and mitigate traffic jams to your heart’s content.
