King of Fighters XIII
The twelfth installment in the King of Fighters series, King of Fighters XIII largely fixed issues from the prior game, King of Fighters XII, that significantly modified gameplay by removing some modes, adding ones formerly used in the series, as well as expanding the character roster. It’s an installment that brought the needed changes to bring back the series to its well-known roots.
Tatsunoko vs. Capcom: Ultimate All-Stars
Tatsunoko vs. Capcom is a crossover fighting game originally released exclusively on the Wii in North America that has characters engage in combat with a team of two characters or with a single giant character. Set in a 2.5D environment, characters fight in a 2D arena, with character models and backgrounds rendered in 3D graphics. A Wii Mad Catz arcade stick was even released with the game, but being a Wii exclusive limited its success and even went largely unnoticed. Even so, it is praised as a solid fighting game with great visuals and cast of characters.

However, with both being from Arc System Works, they are in a way, very similar as well. While there’s the saying that Blazblue players hate Guilty Gear and vice versa, Guilty Gear is the “harder” one, etc, I feel they pioneered the 2D anime fighting game genre in very similar ways. Nonetheless, both are amazing and taking your pick at either will serve you in the right direction.
Super Smash Bros Melee
Super Smash Bros Melee is the second game in the Super Smash Bros. series that has players fight as one of many iconic Nintendo characters to force their opponents beyond the boundaries of the stage. Having an immense amount of content and modes both in single and multiplayer, Super Smash Bros Melee truly marked the pinnacle of the Super Smash Bros. series on the GameCube in both the casual and competitive arenas.
