3 Up, 3 Down – Three Amazing E3 2016 Trailers and Three That Disappointed

Three Disappointing E3 2016 Trailers

Gears of War 4 (Xbox One)

I would not call Gears of War 4 one of the worst E3 videos but rather it is more of a disappointment. There was nothing during the demo that screamed “I need to buy this”. The demo featured some co-op gameplay with the same dark and drab environments we have seen in nearly every Gears of War game. This was the point in the Xbox briefing where I began to start falling asleep. It was painful, there was nothing innovative and the demo did little to sell the game for me. Oh but I might be able to play with people on PC… yawn.

Final Fantasy XV (Multi-Platform)

Much like the God of War demo, this isn’t exactly a trailer, like at all, but this demo was so bad we need to mentioned it here in our stinker section. Someone made the fatal decision to have a Product Marketing Manager play the demo and lets just say that move proved to be fatal. The demo was painful to watch as Mathew Kishimoto (the Marketing Manager) struggled against the boss. During most of the demo Matt is getting shit kicked by the boss until the game finally lets him take the boss down. The demo did nothing to make Final Fantasy XV look any good and is certainly one of the most embarrassing moments of E3.

Resident Evil VII (Multi-Platform)

There is no question I am happy another Resident Evil game is on the way but the trailer we saw at E3 did not look like a Resident Evil game. The video shown at the Sony E3 presser also did nothing to get me excited about it. For starters, the trailer was in first person which is not something we’ve seen in a Resident Evil game. That is a big red flag for me but I also understand this is likely setting the stage for the game being playable on VR. Yet is this the Resident Evil game fans have been craving for? I don’t think so. I was just disappointed as the franchise is in a serious slump and it doesn’t look like RE VII will be the slump buster we want it to be.
