Cast the Mightiest Spells in Tabletop Tavern
Steel and gunpowder are no longer enough to win the war in Tabletop Tavern. The game’s first major content update, The Rift of Magic, unleashes spellcasting on the battlefield, bringing 30 spells, recruitable mages for every faction, new game modes, and a host of gameplay improvements to the medieval RTS roguelite.
For those unfamiliar with the game, Tabletop Tavern combines the large-scale battles of Total War with the run-based decision-making of Slay the Spire. Players build armies, fight epic battles, and make strategic choices in a miniature wargame presented on a tavern tabletop.
The Rift of Magic introduces a new spellcasting system that lets players bring up to three spells into battle. However, mana never replenishes mid-fight, making every cast count. Each faction also gets its own recruitable mage, while 16 signature spells tied to individual heroes can be unlocked and used across future runs.
Players looking for a tougher challenge can dive into Endless Mode after completing Act III. It will test how long their army can survive without healing or recruiting new troops. Daily Runs also arrive, offering everyone the same challenge with global and friends leaderboards.
The update doesn’t stop there. Players can explore 14 new events and story chains, unlock 75 achievements, use photo mode, and enjoy Steam Deck controls. The developers have also improved enemy battle AI, revamped charge mechanics, boosted performance, and expanded mod support with custom unit models on the Steam Workshop.
With magic now in the mix, battles in Tabletop Tavern are about to get far less predictable. Whether you’re returning for another run or looking for a fresh challenge, The Rift of Magic gives players plenty of reasons to jump back onto the battlefield.
