Tabletop Tavern Emerges as One of Steam Next Fest’s Top Strategy Demos

A Huge Win for Tabletop Tavern

What began as a solo passion project by developer TJ has quickly become one of the breakout strategy demos of Steam Next Fest. Built around the ambitious idea of combining Total War–style large–scale battles with roguelike progression, Tabletop Tavern has steadily climbed the charts. The game now ranks near the top of the Strategy, RTS, Roguelike, and Roguelite categories during the event.

The players’ reception reflects the momentum as the demo currently holds 466 Very Positive reviews. This makes it one of the most warmly received strategy titles in the festival. To celebrate the milestone, the team has added a brand new playable faction to the demo: The Draksour Brood.

The Draksour Brood introduces monstrous battlefield units and a far more aggressive, high-pressure approach to combat. Their arrival significantly shifts the flow of each run, encouraging bold tactics and dynamic army compositions that feel distinct from existing factions. Alongside new content, the game continues to evolve through regular updates. TJ has implemented numerous bug fixes, applied player-driven balance adjustments, and rolled out ongoing improvements shaped directly by community feedback.

Tabletop Tavern blends large-scale RTS combat with roguelike progression systems. This allows players to recruit from diverse factions, discover powerful synergies, and attempt full campaign runs in tightly designed, highly replayable sessions.

For fans of strategy games, roguelites, and standout Next Fest discoveries, it is emerging as a must-watch title. Interview opportunities are available for those interested in covering the game or TJ’s solo development journey.
