Wabisabi SushiDerby Races Onto Steam and Switch Today

Start Training and Racing in Wabisabi SushiDerby

Wabisabi SushiDerby has officially launched today on Nintendo Switch and PC via Steam, bringing a quirky twist to the racing genre with sushi taking center stage. Published by Kodansha Ltd. through its Kodansha Game Lab indie label and developed by ITAMAE Studio, the game puts players in the role of an apprentice sushi chef who must train edible racers and compete for the prestigious S1 Galaxy Cup.

Priced at just $4.99, Wabisabi SushiDerby is also available with a 10% launch discount on both Steam and Nintendo Switch until July 28, 2026.

The game blends racing simulation with light strategy. Players create their own sushi racers using different toppings unlocked through progression across multiple leagues. Each topping features unique stats and special abilities, allowing players to customize their competitors before sending them into races held across sushi counters, parties, and other locations. Training sessions improve stats and unlock additional skills, increasing the chances of earning first place and prize money.

Unlike traditional racing games, players don’t directly control their sushi during races. Instead, the action unfolds automatically, leaving players to focus on timing special skills and using the “Cheer” button to give their sushi a burst of speed. That extra boost can make all the difference when chasing victory or escaping hungry customers armed with chopsticks.

Steam players can also purchase the game in a discounted bundle with Moldwasher, another sushi-themed adventure from Kodansha Game Lab, for an additional 10% savings. The launch is also accompanied by a collaboration music video featuring Japanese creator Yamashita Makoto and the playful theme song, “Osushidaisushi ~The Song for Wabisabi SushiDerby~.”

With its charming concept, accessible gameplay, and lighthearted humor, Wabisabi SushiDerby offers a fun and affordable experience for players looking for something a little different.
