Get a First-Hand Experience of Beards Go Underground
Indie title Beards Go Underground is pushing forward with its latest milestone, as developer PandaBee Studios officially kicks off its first public Alpha Playtest. The announcement follows the game’s reveal during the Second Wind Showcase and arrives as part of the ongoing Steam Deckbuilders Fest, a platform-wide celebration of deckbuilding games.
Blending roguelike deckbuilding with mining strategy, Beards Go Underground offers a unique gameplay loop focused on careful planning and high-impact rewards. Players take control of the Beards, a group of gold-hungry dwarves on a mission to track down their former leader, King Alberich, and reclaim their stolen riches deep beneath the surface.
The current Alpha introduces players to the first playable character, The Goat. Designed as an accessible starting point, this character mixes defensive tactics, explosive plays, and strategic card combinations. This gives players a well-rounded introduction to the game’s core mechanics.
Gameplay revolves around building a dynamic deck filled with tools like pickaxes, minecarts, tamed beasts, and explosives. As players dig through procedurally generated underground layers, they can unleash powerful chain reactions. It will help destroy terrain, defeat goblins, and uncover valuable loot. Between runs, players can secure their earnings and spend their gold at the in-game inn. All while adapting their strategies to overcome increasingly difficult encounters.
With its Alpha now live, Beards Go Underground offers an early glimpse into its inventive mix of strategy and chaos. As development continues, the game is shaping up to be a promising addition to the growing deckbuilding genre.
