GRIMPS Demo Blasts Onto Steam Today

Bring Out Your Absurd Weapons in Grimps

Independent developer WATT Studio has launched the first public demo for GRIMPS, its chaotic plush-infested shooter. The demo invites players into a surreal world where cuddly stuffed toys turn into lethal enemies, absurd weapons dominate every encounter, and a sarcastic pigeon sidekick may be the only thing keeping you alive.

In GRIMPS, players battle through relentless waves of possessed plush monsters while searching for a missing lover and chasing legendary status. The game blends fast-paced arena combat with platforming challenges and environmental puzzles, steadily escalating into pure stuffed-animal madness. Every encounter pushes players to stay mobile, react quickly, and embrace the chaos.

Visually, GRIMPS rejects traditional polygonal realism in favor of bold color blocking and stylized texture masks. This approach creates a cohesive, striking aesthetic across its handcrafted weapons, characters, and environments. All while giving the game a distinct identity that feels playful and unsettling at the same time.

The demo showcases three signature weapons: the Hamster Shotgun, which fires crushing nuts in a devastating spread; a Rapid-Fire Machine Gun built for crowd-clearing chaos; and the Swordfish Blade, a brutal melee weapon for close-range carnage. Combat centers on the Burst System, where enemies explode into flying buttons, torn fabric, and clouds of stuffing, turning every fight into a tactile visual spectacle.

Players will also meet the game’s talkative and arrogant pigeon companion. Far more than comic relief, the pigeon brings unique combat abilities that can dramatically shift the flow of battle. The demo features intense combat arenas, platforming, spatial puzzles, and three enemy types with distinct behaviors. There is also a climactic boss fight against a fiery plush monstrosity. Completing the experience is a hard-hitting soundtrack by Brotherhood of the Atom, known for their work on Atomic Heart.
