Switch 2 Hits 2.4 Million Sales in Its First Three Months in the US

A Huge Win for Switch 2

The Nintendo Switch 2 has made an impressive debut in the US, with strong sales figures highlighting its early success. According to industry analyst Mat Piscatella from Circana, the hybrid console sold 2.4 million units in its first three months on the market, spanning June through August. This performance places the system five percent ahead of the PlayStation 4’s previous record, which sold 2.2 million units during the same launch period in 2014.

Piscatella pointed out that the Switch 2’s robust sales helped offset declines across competing consoles, including the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and the original Nintendo Switch. In fact, the new system is significantly outpacing its predecessor, with unit sales running 77 percent ahead of the time-aligned sales of the original Switch.

Global figures from Nintendo’s financial report in August further underscored the device’s success. Within seven weeks of launch, Switch 2 hardware sales had surpassed six million units worldwide, accompanied by a detailed regional breakdown. These numbers confirm the console’s early momentum and strong reception among gamers.

On the software side, Donkey Kong Bananza ranked among the best-selling games in the US during August, securing seventh place, a slight drop from its third-place position the previous month. This ranking does not include digital sales, which may further influence the game’s overall performance.

With these figures, the Switch 2 is clearly establishing itself as a formidable contender in the current console market, demonstrating both strong consumer interest and impressive early adoption rates. Nintendo’s hybrid strategy appears to be paying off, positioning the Switch 2 for continued success in the months ahead.
