Misfits Attic will launch Below the Crown, a captivating mix of chess, roguelikes, and dungeon crawlers, on Windows PC via Steam Early Access on November 10, 2025. Players can try the debut demo today at 9 a.m. PT to experience the game’s strategic magic firsthand.
In Below the Crown, players become a Wizard leading a party of chess-inspired pieces through a mysterious, ever-changing dungeon. Bishops, Knights, and even a Mad Queen follow the Wizard’s commands to outsmart enemies or unleash destructive spells, from freezing blasts to fiery explosions. Players can collect magical runes to increase the challenge of future runs and acquire new skills and spell cards to expand tactical options and keep every adventure fresh.
The game actively engages with the community, letting players compete in challenges, create and share custom boards. They can even watch replays of other Wizards’ impressive victories. A quirky psychological evaluation system tests players’ choices, offering insight into their decision-making while pushing them back into thrilling magical battles.
Below the Crown celebrates the depth and dynamism of chess while injecting a dark, magical, 80s sci-fi twist. The development team brings decades of experience from working on major franchises such as Diablo and Call of Duty. As well as DreamWorks films, including Shrek 2, How to Train Your Dragon, and Bee Movie. The game promises to deliver polished strategy and engaging storytelling.
