Surf the Channel in Mumbo Shuffle
The indie studio 9 Buttons has launched the demo for Mumbo Shuffle on Steam, inviting players to step into its unusual blend of roguelike action and deckbuilding strategy. This teletext-inspired adventure features creatures called Mumbos, each with its own personality and abilities, and gives players a taste of the full release arriving soon.
In Mumbo Shuffle, you choose a deck linked to a specific Mumbo and guide it through a galaxy of quirky television channels in search of snacks and surprises. Channel surfing isn’t just for show; it’s how you explore new areas and uncover unexpected twists. To progress, you will need to build and play poker hands, carefully discarding or jumbling your cards to create the strongest combinations. Each round pits you against a sound, and success depends on balancing strategy with improvisation.
Your Mumbo’s power and type influence every choice you make. Some powers encourage bold, aggressive tactics, while others reward a slower, more calculated approach. Type advantages can dramatically shift the tide, doubling your score in a boss battle. Or, if mismatched, cutting your points in half and putting victory out of reach.
The demo offers a glimpse of a sprawling world with 90 distinctive channels, each packed with its own eccentric traits. Players can experiment with nine unique decks, each paired with a different Mumbo. They can also discover nine types of Mumbos and bosses, ensuring no two runs feel the same.
With its playful teletext aesthetic, unpredictable channels, and poker-driven combat, Mumbo Shuffle promises a fresh twist on the roguelike deckbuilder formula. Steam players can dive into the demo today and start surfing the channels while waiting for the full release.
