Step Onto the Red Planet in Surviving Mars: Pioneer
On Mars, survival is only the beginning. Tomorrow, Surviving Mars: Pioneer steps out of Early Access and makes its full 1.0 debut on Steam VR and Meta Quest, with support for Meta Quest 2 headsets. A PlayStation VR2 release will follow on September 12, 2025, rounding out its arrival across platforms. Priced at $24.99, this version promises to deliver the most complete experience to date.
Pioneer is not a remake of the original Surviving Mars or a city-builder reworked for VR. Instead, the game offers a fully standalone first-person survival experience that builds around the immediacy of virtual reality. Every breath of oxygen matters, every trek across the dust-choked Martian surface carries risk, and every action relies on hands-on interaction. From welding life-saving structures to threading power lines through barren valleys, players must balance constant danger with rare moments of awe beneath alien skies. Rival factions shape progress through contracts, trading rewards for risks that can determine whether a colony thrives or collapses.
The 1.0 release introduces sweeping updates. The building system has been rebuilt to allow greater freedom, with smoother connections between structures, new customization tools, and expanded construction options, including Roof Platforms, Stairs, Railings, and a Vertical Airlock. A Viewpod structure lets settlers safely admire the Martian horizon, while interior color customization adds personality to survival.
Beyond the colony, the world itself deepens. Newly opened cave systems hide both resources and hazards, while a narrative-driven ending provides closure for those who endure the harsh frontier. Achievements across all platforms give players new milestones to pursue. Enhanced visuals, especially on Steam VR and PS VR2, alongside extensive bug fixes and optimizations, ensure the definitive version of Pioneer is ready for launch.
