A New Rumour for Nintendo Switch 2
Nintendo has not yet announced local pricing for Switch 2 game upgrade packs, but its Japanese website offers a rough estimate of what you might expect to pay. If you already own a game and want to upgrade it for the new system, the cost will likely range between 1,000 and 2,000 yen. This translates to approximately $10 to $15, though the exact price will depend on your region.
The upgrade costs will not be the same for every game. Some titles appear to be priced higher than others. According to the Japanese website, games such as Kirby and the Forgotten Land and Super Mario Party Jamboree require an upgrade fee that is 1,000 yen more than Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Based on currency conversions, this could mean that certain upgrades will cost around $20.
Upgrade Packs should cost approx. $10 to $15
Zelda BOTW JP Price – ¥6.980
Zelda BOTW NS2 Edition JP Price – ¥8.678

Nintendo has not officially confirmed these prices outside of Japan. However, the recent price increase for the Switch 2 console and its bundles suggests that upgrade costs might be higher than expected in some areas. The company has also confirmed that if you subscribe to Switch Online with the Expansion Pack, you will have access to certain upgrade packs at no additional cost. This means that some upgrades will be a part of the subscription without the need for an extra payment.
For those who prefer physical copies, Nintendo is offering upgraded versions of games in both physical and digital formats. These editions will include the original game along with the upgrade pack, allowing you to purchase everything in a single package rather than upgrading separately.
