Nintendo and The Pokémon Company Sued Palworld Developer

Palworld Is in Trouble

Nintendo and The Pokémon Company are officially taking legal action against Poketpair, the developer of Palworld. According to a press release, the two companies filed a patent infringement lawsuit today in the Tokyo District Court. “This lawsuit seeks an injunction against infringement and compensation for damages on the grounds that Palworld, a game developed and released by the Defendant, infringes multiple patent rights,” the press release said.

“Nintendo will continue to take necessary actions against any infringement of its intellectual property rights including the Nintendo brand itself, to protect the intellectual properties it has worked hard to establish over the years.”

Nintendo has already mentioned its intention to investigate Palworld back in January this year. The company stated that they will take necessary steps to handle any actions that violate intellectual property rights related to Pokémon. However, in June, Pocketpair claimed that they hadn’t received any communication from Nintendo, nor had they encountered any legal issues.

The event has changed drastically with this new lawsuit against Pocketpair. The game has been a huge hit, selling an impressive 12 million copies on Steam to date. Pocketpair is looking to grow Palworld further by teaming up with Sony Music Entertainment to expand the game’s reach. They’re also considering introducing microtransactions as part of their plans.
