Gamescom 2022 Makes In-Person Return Along With Online Offering
Gamescom is one of the largest video game conferences and Europe’s largest platform for video games. The pandemic has severely affected in-person events worldwide for the past two years. However, thankfully, the impact of the pandemic is slowly subsiding and restrictions are being lifted. As a result, today, the planners behind the event have confirmed that Gamescom 2022 will be in-person in Cologne. Additionally, there will be an online offering for fans worldwide. Gamescom 2022 will be held from 24th to 28th August. The expo will also be ‘going green.’
Some of the offerings at the even this year include an entertainment and business area, additional sections for cosplay, retro and indie fans and interactive quests. Additionally, cooperative partners in the media and international creators will also have their own offerings.
Gamescom 2022 will go green by offering visitors to make voluntary contributions that will benefit the Bayreuth Forest and there will be an attempt to off-set the carbon production of the event. Additionally, the core event will focus on a wind power project in Brazil and clean cooking stoves in Nigeria.
Oliver Frese, CEO of Koelnmesse, is excited for the return, stating, “We are now finally back again with gamescom – in Cologne and online! And this with a convincing momentum from the games industry. This pleases me greatly. Together we have set up a strong concept, in the context of which we of course also ensure the safety and health, as well as the well-being of all those present.“
