Maybe Skip This if You Have the Xbox Version
Yakuza: Like a Dragon was a surprise hit for the franchise purely because it was so different, being a turn-based RPG as opposed to the beat-em-ups that came before, and taking a delightfully meta twist along the way โ weโre seeing the events of the game through the eyes of video game obsessed Ichiban, fresh out of prison for a crime he didnโt commit and then left for dead by the very man who arranged for him to take the fall โ who wouldnโt have a few screws loose?
The game was originally released on the PS4 in Japan all the way back in January 2020, with a Worldwide release on PS4 and Xbox Series X/S on November 10th (Excluding Japan, which is seeing the Xbox release next month. I know, itโs confusing), with the PS5 edition seeing a worldwide release on March 2nd (this date is the same in Japan.)
Thereโs been some speculation about the specs and what new features the PS5 edition will bring โ such as whether it will make use of the PS5 controllerโs adaptive triggers or haptic feedback โ but it looks like as far as specs go, itโs nothing weโve not seen before: The game will run exactly the same as it did on the Xbox Series X/S, at least on a visual level. youโll get the option to switch from performance mode โ which has a 30 FPS frame rate and 4K โ or a frame rate option, which reduces the resolution to 1440p but raises the framerate to 60 FPS.
The bad news is that, if youโve already bought the PS4 edition, your save file wonโt transfer over to the PS5, so youโll need to start a fresh story โ but if a game has lobsters as a summon, is that really a problem?
