Stay Gold and Purple, Ponyboy
2K has revealed the cover stars of the next NBA game. Select NBA 2K games have been featuring multiple athletes as the cover stars since 2012. This year, NBA 2K21 will feature three different players; Damien Lillard, Zion Williamson, and the late, great Kobe Bryant. Bryant is a touching choice since this is the first NBA 2K game since his untimely death in January. Zion Williamson and Damien Lillard will be the cover stars for the Standard Editions of the game, while Bryant will be the cover star of NBA 2K21 Mamba Forever Edition.
Since this holiday season will see the release of the next generation of Sony and Microsoft consoles, 2K has to juggle the different versions of this next game and how fans will want to purchase them. They seem to have it figured out though. Damian Lillard will be featured on the Standard Edition for the current generation of consoles (Xbox One, PS4, Nintendo Switch, and PC). Zion Williamson will be on the Standard Edition for PS5 and Xbox Series X, maybe the fresh face goes with the fresh consoles. Kobe Bryant will be on the cover of the Mamba Forever Editions of both generations, each with different cover art.
The Mamba Forever Edition does not just have some cool bonuses such as in-game points, tokens, currency, and clothing items, but it also comes with a digital copy of the Standard Edition of whichever generation you did not order it on. This means that you can purchase the Mamba Forever Edition on PS4 and it will come with a code that you can redeem to get it on PS5, or from Xbox One to Xbox Series X. It also works in reverse, so you can buy the PS5 version and get a code for it on PS4. NBA 2K21 comes out on September 4th for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and Nintendo Switch.
