Can You Put a Price on Good Hair? Koei Tecmo Can
Dead or Alive 6 is notorious for brutal microtransactions. Their season passes cost at least as much as the game itself, sometimes more. The content that comes during each season is usually only a couple of new characters, maybe a new stage to fight on, and a bunch of costume sets. Are these worth $60-$80? It doesn’t matter; as long as fans buy them, Koei Tecmo will keep grinding them out, and I’m talking about the money, from fans. However, the latest addition of Dead or Alive 6 microtransactions may be taking the cake.
Koei Tecmo is now selling a new form of DOA currency called Premium Tickets, and when something is called Premium, you know it’s bad news for your wallet. These Premium Tickets can be purchased for real money, and the purpose of them is for players to buy cosmetic items individually, if they do not want to purchase them in a pack like a season pass. Sounds alright if you’re a player who only wants to dress up Ayane or Marie Rose, but here’s the kicker. Players can now also change a fighter’s hair colour using these Tickets. They can be reverted back to their regular hair colour, but if you want to go back to the new colour, you will have to buy it again!
A tweet from the Dead or Alive Twitter account blew up with complaints and negative reactions to the Premium Tickets. You know you made a bad decision when the fans you’ve managed to con for three seasons are angry. Dead or Alive 6 is available on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
