It’s Great StartÂ
Ghost Recon Breakpoint is going to be available tomorrow on October 4th. However, it is currently playable for players who have the Gold, Ultimate or Wolves Collector’s Editions. Due to the early access feature for those bundles, fans were able to get to the game before everyone else and find that Breakpoint is littered with microtransactions. Or at least it was. Players were outraged that things like skill points and booster had a price tag attached to them.
But this story does have a happy ending. Ubisoft actually listened to the complaints of their customers and made immediate changes to their game. Ubisoft removed some of the microtransactions altogether. They acknowledged that they were wrong and took to their forums to make peace with Ghost Recon fans.
“With Ghost Recon Breakpoint, we always aimed at offering a fair and rewarding experience to our players however they want to experience our game, in solo, co-op, PvE or PvP,” said UbiBorghal, the community manager.
He continued, “From the beginning, two key factors stood out as extremely important for the team: That Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Breakpoint doesn’t include any pay-to-win elements, [and] to make sure that players not choosing to engage with in-game purchases do not see their experience affected. Players will be able to unlock skills and get access to plenty of varied loot and items by simply playing the game.”
This is a big deal for gamers. It is unfortunately very rare that a company listens to its fans’ concerns over microtransaction. Especially a company as large as Ubisoft. This could potentially be a big turning point. Even if Breakpoint isn’t removing every microtransaction, it’s still a good start.
Ghost Recon Breakpoint launches tomorrow for the PC, Xbox One, and PS4.
