Not for the Squeamish – Extreme Gore in Resident Evil 2

BRUTAL Damage and Gore Effects in Resident Evil 2 One-Shot Demo

There is really only one video game franchise that is truly synonymous with the word zombie: Resident Evil. Sure there are plenty of other franchises, but the one that really started it all and crafted the truly iconic and horrifying experience of being overrun with the undead is still Resident Evil. When it was announced that Resident Evil 2 was getting the remaster treatment and we got to see some gameplay footage, fans were pumped. This highly detailed and excruciatingly terrifying video showed us just how claustrophobic it could be to play as Leon once more. Gone are the days of the super fast zombie hordes as we return to a time of the shambling and eerie creature in the dark.

With the recent release of the Resident Evil 2 demo, fans had a chance to go hands-on and see just what this updated game would look like, and we couldn’t help but put together a compilation showing off some of the truly brutal damage and gore effects you’ll see in the game including severed heads, holes in torsos, blasting a corpse in half, or shooting their legs off at the knee just to name a few. Resident Evil 2 is an upcoming remaster of the iconic game from 1998. Given a proper remaster treatment, the game undergoes a modernizing touch as well as new third person camera angle to maintain the sense of densely packed areas and claustrophobia. Players take on the role of Leon Kennedy as he and Claire Redfield attempt to flee Raccoon City at the onset of the zombie apocalypse. The game uses the RE Engine developed for Resident Evil 7 and feature some incredible – if haunting and upsetting – detail in the zombies and gore.

Resident Evil 2 is set for release on January 25th, and will be available on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. For more information, check out the game’s official website.
