Xbox Adaptive Controller is Just 1 of 50 Inventions That Made the List
Microsoft’s Xbox Adaptive Controller — a rig that makes playing games possible for people with limited hand and arm mobility — has made TIME’s 50 Best Inventions of 2018 list.
Every year, TIME highlights the best inventions that actually benefit people and our world. To make the list, they “solicited nominations across a variety of categories from our editors and correspondents around the world, as well as through an online application process.” After that, they based each invention on five key factors: originality, creativity, influence, ambition, and effectiveness.
The Xbox Adaptive Controller wasn’t the only invention that made the list that focused on people with disabilities. Also on the list is the Eargo Max (a hearing aid), the Gillette Treo (an assisted shaver), and the WHILLÂ Model Ci (a sort of super wheelchair).
Priced at only $99.99 USD, the Xbox Adaptive Controller has earned lots of praise inside and outside of the gaming industry. It was built from the ground up with input from many different communities including The AbleGamer Charity, The Cerebral Palsy Foundation, SpecialEffect, Warfighter Engaged, and more.
It also works with a plethora of external devices like switches, buttons, mounts, and joysticks to create a controller layout that can be tailored uniquely to an individual. You can even remap buttons and profiles using the Xbox Accessories app to really customize your experience. The controller is compatible with all Xbox One machines and Windows 10 PC’s. You can always head over to the official page to find out more.
