Hellblade Devs Will Make Charity Donation If Sales on the Xbox One Are High Enough

The Developer Promised to Donate Tens of Thousands of Dollars

Ninja Theory, the developers of 2017’s Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice, have promised to donate to a nonprofit mental health organization if the first week sales of the Xbox One version of the game are high enough.

Ninja Theory tweeted about their big promise on Tuesday. The developer tweeted that if the Xbox One version of Hellblade reached 50,000 units sold by April 18th then they would donate $25,000 to Mental Health America, a nonprofit organization that aids those with mental health issues.

If Hellblade sells 100,000 units in its first week then Ninja Theory has promised to donate $50,000 to the organization.

Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice is a third-person action-adventure game about a young warrior who is afflicted by mental illness. The game is mostly linear and its gameplay mostly involves fighting enemies and solving puzzles.

COGconnected reviewed the PS4 version of the game last summer and our reviewer, Ahmed Mohamed, described it as “an important step for gaming to take, as an interactive medium, if it wants to mature to the level of novels and film in terms of subject material.”

“Ninja Theory has delivered a game that is equally good and important for the industry in terms of serious storytelling and the ability to create AAA experiences at a low cost,” Mohamed wrote.
