Horizon Zero Dawn Wins Writers Guild Award for Its Narrative
The smash-hit PS4 masterpiece Horizon Zero Dawn won a Writers Guild award for its writing and story this past weekend on Sunday.
“Wow, Outstanding Achievement in Videogame Writing! That is a really fancy name for the red-headed stepchild of tonight’s awards,” remarked the game’s Narrative Director, John Gonzalez, as he accepted the Writers Guild award.
Other nominees for the award included Dishonored: Death of the Outsider, Madden NFL 18: Longshot and Futurama: Worlds of Tomorrow.
Gonzalez went onto say that “as writers who care deeply about the craft of telling stories”, it was “incredibly exciting” for his team to be in the company of so many other talented writers at the awards ceremony.

Horizon Zero Dawn’s Lead Writer, Benjamin McCaw, also spoke, praising the other writers on their staff for their work.
He also praised voice actress, Ashley Burch, who voiced the game’s protagonist, Aloy, along with all the other people at Guerilla Games who worked on Horizon Zero Dawn.
The two also dedicated the award to their deceased mothers.
“It is no coincidence that their sons went onto write an epic with a strong female protagonist, in which human love, in general, and maternal love, in particular, loom so large,” said Gonzalez in his closing remarks.
“We’ve learned that from them. This is for them. Thank you, they’re not forgotten,” he said.
