Overwatch Director Apologizes over Mei’s Legendary Holiday Skin

Jeff Kaplan Responds on Battle.net to Backlash About Mei’s Legendary Skin

After a wave of negative feedback, Blizzard’s Jeff Kaplan formally apologized over the lackluster quality of Mei’s Legendary holiday skin. Fans voiced concerns that the skin in question failed to qualify as Legendary in quality and cost. They were also worried that another skin for Mei would be a long time coming, a wait made worse by the holiday skin’s inferior quality.

Kaplan responded directly to these concerns on Battle.net. He apologized for the team’s “cool meter” being off the mark. Kaplan regretted that Mei’s Legendary holiday skin, crafted “specifically based on community suggestions,” was so poorly received. Player response to Kaplan’s statement suggests the skin is just too expensive. Other players complained that the skin wasn’t worth the wait they endured. Blizzard fans are a passionate group, and they’re more than willing to voice their displeasure if something is amiss.

Regardless, Kaplan was prompt in addressing these concerns. He apologized for the team’s coolness failure. He said players wouldn’t have to wait nearly as long for Mei’s next skin to arrive. This year has demonstrated the importance of responding quickly to player concerns. Three days is an excellent response time. Some companies don’t respond for months.

Hopefully Mei’s next Legendary skin will inspire less of an angry backlash among fans.
