Blizzard Looking to Put the Boots to Overwatch Braggarts
If you’ve ever played a game online you don’t need to be schooled much on how ruthless the commentary can be from your opponents. No one is safe, not even your dear old Mom. Well, Blizzard has had enough of Overwatch players bragging when they win a match. In an effort to discourage poor sportsmanship and arrogance from its player base Blizzard is developing and testing a fun new patch on Overwatch’s Public Test Region.
Originally reported over on Eurogamer, there’s a new filter that picks up the phrase ‘gg ez’ which traditionally means ‘good game, easy’ as to imply that the match was effortless due to poorly skilled opponents. The filter then transforms the phrase into other less nasty and much more amusing phrases such as:
- I feel very, very small… please hold me…
- C’mon, Mom! One more game before you tuck me in. Oops mistell
- I could really use a hug right now.
- It’s past my bedtime. Please don’t tell my mommy.
- I’m wrestling with some insecurity issues in my life but thank you for playing with me.
- I’m trying to be a nicer person. It’s hard, but I’m trying, guys.
Technically everyone will still know what’s implied at that point but it certainly is a light-hearted take on the situation. Certainly, Blizzard is also looking to target other nasty phrases that are commonly used too. All we know is that we like. Keep up the good work, Blizzard!
