No, you’re not hallucinating – Shrooms, a survival mutant game on Steam, just got a major update. In case you haven’t played the game before, Shrooms is a Survival game that invites you in to a world filled with mutants. The world of Shrooms is infected by fungi and, by consequence you’ll get infected too but that not exactly a bad thing. As you are being infected you will start to mutate and evolve adapting yourself to each biome. By living in the savannah you will get mutations that will make you run faster, in the canyons there are mutations that let you jump higher and even glide.
Pairing this with the survival mechanics we are already used to (finding food, building tools and shelter) makes this a Survival game that stands out a bit from the crowd.
Here’s what’s in this update:
- New interface: reorganized the Hud, added some cool down timers and information boxes for quicker access to whats happening with your character at any given time.
- Item storage in the form of chests. You can now keep a chest on your house so you can store some of your valuables.
- Combat rework, new combat system and now you can do combo attacks. Also added a moment when you reach 0 health where you’ll fall to the ground and try to get out of harm’s way. If you do you’ll survive and not lose anything. Also introduced an execute action if you feel like killing someone crawling away.
- A lot of new animations in the main character. The devs are working in making her look just as wild and outlandish as possible.
- Increased the size of the map and remade some zones and we add some environmental hazards to make your life more interesting.
Current Key Features
- Explore a world that is being built at this very moment, but remember to take your friends, the night is dark and full of panthers.
- Adapt by gaining body mutations that unlock different abilities. These can be mixed and matched to customize the gameplay to your liking and needs. Right now there are 24 different mutations for a total of 126 combinations.
- Survive by overcoming the cold and the heat while fending off animals and other survivors.
- Hunt the wildlife for resources, just make sure you wont become the prey.
- Harvest materials and craft tools and build houses.
