The Venomous Abyss: Everything We Know About WoW Midnight’s Season 2 Raid

world of warcraft customization options

World of Warcraft: Midnight’s second raid tier is almost here, and it is dragging players somewhere genuinely unpleasant. The Venomous Abyss opens with the start of Midnight Season 2 on August 18, 2026, one week after Patch 12.1, Curse of Ula’tek, goes live on the 11th. It is an eight-boss descent into the Vaults of Atal’Utek beneath the new Coiled Isle, and it ends with a fight against Ula’tek herself, an ancient force of hatred and venom the Amani trolls spent a very long time keeping locked away.

Here is what is confirmed so far, straight from Blizzard’s Season 2 reveal, along with the rewards worth chasing and how the rollout actually works.

The Setup: Who is Ula’tek?

Ula’tek is an ancient snake goddess once worshipped by the Amani trolls of Zul’Aman, who later turned on her and locked her away. A force of hatred, corruption and venom, she proved to be as much a danger as whatever she was meant to destroy, so the Amani built the vast prison-complex of Atal’Utek to contain her and kept her buried there for around sixteen thousand years.

That is, until now. A troll named Zul’jan, guided by the whispers of the long-dead shaman Malacrass, has freed Ula’tek’s broods from their prison. Zul’jarra, pursuing her brother, calls on the Champions of Azeroth to descend into the vault and stop the ritual before Ula’tek’s power is fully unleashed. It gives the raid a clear escalation: you are chasing Zul’jan through Atal’Utek toward the thing he should never have woken.

Eight Bosses Beneath the Coiled Isle

The Venomous Abyss is an eight-boss raid, and the encounters sit inside the Vaults of Atal’Utek on the Coiled Isle, Midnight’s new Season 2 outdoor zone. The raid builds toward Ula’tek as its final encounter, working through her awakened brood, her corrupted guardians, and Zul’jan’s ritual before you reach her inner sanctum. Here is the full lineup, in order:

  • Nek’zali the Soulcoiler – a shadow hunter once entombed for the blasphemous act of summoning Ula’tek, now restored by the very power she unleashed and calling the other Soulcoilers back to serve her.
  • Entombed Sentinels – ancient golems that long guarded the vaults, now corrupted by the venom of the monster they were built to imprison.
  • Vashnik the Malignant – lurking in the Chamber of Virulence, distilling Ula’tek’s venoms into ever more lethal forms to empower her brood.
  • The Lost Explorers – a band of tortollan, possessed by vengeful spirits, trapped in the vault and scrambling for artifacts to protect themselves.
  • Sszorak – a horrifying creature warped by Ula’tek’s venom, calling on the howling winds deep within Atal’Utek to tear apart anything it meets.
  • The Twin Fangs – Vexhul and Ithraz, the first of Ula’tek’s blood, brooding beneath a roiling sea of venom in the prison’s inner chamber.
  • The Coiled Altar – where the spirit of Malacrass forces Zul’jan to enact the final ritual, the last obstacle before the goddess herself.
  • Ula’tek – the final boss, risen from her ancient slumber in the inner sanctum, threatening all of Azeroth if she escapes.

Because the patch is still on the PTR at the time of writing, exact boss-by-boss mechanics are subject to change right up to release, and Blizzard typically finalizes tuning in the patch notes shortly before launch. The lineup and structure above are confirmed; the fine detail of how each fight plays will firm up as launch approaches.

The Rewards Worth Chasing

This is where a new raid tier earns its reputation, and the Venomous Abyss has a strong spread.

Class armor sets. All thirteen classes get a new tier set from the raid, each with its own name and look. These are the visual identity of the season, and the Mythic versions in particular are what raiders will be showing off for months.

The Hall of Fame. The first two hundred guilds worldwide to defeat Ula’tek on Mythic difficulty earn the “Famed Slayer of Ula’tek” Feat of Strength. As always, this is the target that drives the race week and closes forever once the two hundred slots are filled.

Mounts and trophies. Defeating Mythic Ula’tek drops the Primeval Skyfriend, with three copies dropping per Mythic kill, which makes it considerably more accessible than most historical Mythic raid mounts. On top of that, every difficulty from Raid Finder up drops housing trophies, scaling in prestige with the difficulty you clear, so even Normal and Raid Finder groups walk away with something to show off in the new player housing system.

How the Rollout Works

The Venomous Abyss does not open all at once, which matters for planning your first few weeks.

The raid unlocks the week of August 18 on Normal, Heroic and Mythic difficulties, along with the first wing of Raid Finder. The remaining Raid Finder wings then roll out on a weekly schedule: Story Mode and Wing 2 the week of August 25, Wing 3 the week of September 1, and Wing 4 the week of September 8. So the Mythic race begins immediately, while more casual groups get the raid fed to them in chunks over the following month.

It is worth remembering that August 18 is also when the rest of Season 2 switches on: the new Mythic+ rotation featuring the Altar of Fangs dungeon, PvP Season 2, and Bountiful Delves. The raid is the centerpiece, but it arrives alongside the full seasonal reset.

Getting Ready for the Descent

With a hard start date, the sensible move is to spend the content week, August 11 to 18, getting ready rather than waiting for the raid to open. That means finishing the Coiled Isle campaign, unlocking the zone’s Altar of Corrosion talent tree for the minor power gains, and getting your gear and consumables in order so you are not scrambling on raid night.

Not everyone has a raid team, though, and that is where the wall usually is. Plenty of players want the tier set the moment the raid opens, or want a Mythic Ula’tek kill and the Primeval Skyfriend that most people will never clear in time on their own. For those players, an individual WoW raid boost is a way to join an experienced group and get the clear on their chosen difficulty, from an early Normal run for gear and tier tokens up to a full Mythic completion. Either way, the Venomous Abyss rewards going in prepared, so it is worth sorting your approach before the doors open on August 18.

Final Thoughts

The Venomous Abyss looks like a strong centerpiece for Midnight’s second season. Eight bosses, a genuinely nasty setting, a full suite of class tier sets, an accessible Mythic mount, and a self-contained troll-horror story give it a clear identity separate from Season 1’s Void-heavy finale. The mechanics will not be fully known until the patch notes land and the doors open on August 18, but everything revealed so far points to a tier that will keep raiders busy well into the autumn. For now, the Coiled Isle is waiting, and Ula’tek is stirring at the bottom of it.
