Push Back the Darkness With Light in Luminary
Refractive Entertainment has confirmed that Luminary will launch in Steam Early Access on August 11, giving players a chance to jump into a new fantasy ARPG-lite created by a two-developer team. The game will be available for $19.99 and supports both solo play and online co-op for up to three players.
Designed around accessible gameplay and shared progression, Luminary aims to deliver a relaxed fantasy adventure that friends can enjoy together without the usual barriers. Players can freely switch between solo and co-op sessions while keeping their progress, making it easy to continue the adventure with or without teammates.

Set in a handcrafted fantasy world, Luminary encourages exploration, monster hunting, treasure collecting, and experimenting with different weapons and character builds. Instead of focusing on punishing combat, the game offers a more forgiving experience that welcomes both newcomers and longtime action RPG fans.
According to Creative Director Keith Kolod, the idea for Luminary came from playing The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild with his family. While he loved sharing the experience, constantly passing the controller inspired him to create a game where everyone could play together at the same time.
The upcoming Early Access release follows a successful Steam demo, which currently holds a 90% “Very Positive” user rating. The game has also attracted more than 50,000 wishlists ahead of launch, showing strong interest from the community.
With its focus on cooperative exploration, accessible gameplay, and a charming fantasy setting, Luminary is shaping up to be a promising indie release. It will be interesting to see how the game evolves as player feedback helps shape its Early Access journey.
